Goals & Objectives
I am studying a degree in Communications, majoring in Information and Media.
My degree focuses on new media and emerging information technologies, and the way these technologies are shaping society and changing traditional communication processes.
Information and Media at UTS has taught me to understand the interrelationships between people, information and communication technologies, as well as teach me practical skills in areas such as web design and architecture, media research, and writing information and media content for diverse audiences.
It is important to understand that although there is a wealth of information available on the web, a majority of this information is 'hidden' in the deep web. Understanding search processes, key word searching and appropriate tagging can make this information more accessible. Knowledge of the principles of information seeking behaviour has allowed me to design information that can be located and interpreted both effectively and efficiently.
I have undertaken units in communication, media production, information cultures, visual arts, marketing and advertising, and basic web design. I am studying units in web design this semester at University to further develop my skills in HTML and CSS. I believe that learning the 'language' of HTML is invaluable with the emergence of web based communication technologies.
I have experience with Adobe programs including: Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and InDesign. My experience as a digital photographer has also taught me skills in composition, design, aesthetics, and image manipulation.
